Tynemouth Scouts Remembrance Parades

Please find below details of the North Shields Remembrance Day Parade for this year.

We would like scouts to parade in sections, All Beavers, followed by All Cubs, followed by All Scouts, followed by All Explorers, with flag bearers at the front of their respective sections (All group Beaver flags in front of Beavers, etc), and for leaders to walk on either side of the youth members to try and keep them formed tighter and to make a more prominent parade.

This format is used in a number of other districts, and due to the number of scouts who attend this parade, will give a tidier appearance, with all the section uniforms grouped together.

As for the parade itself, please see below details taken from the minutes of the planning meeting held with the Royal British Legion.

North Shields
1015hrs – 1030hrs:
Units form up in the college car park on Hawkeys Lane as per College Diagram.
Saluting dias provided by 346 Sqn RAF Cadets to be in place.
1030hrs: Wreath bearers to be sent to the war memorial (if not already there).
1045hrs: The parade will march off from the college car park.

The order of march is as follows:

  • RAF Cadet Band
  • Unit Standards (Scout flags to march with their own sections)
  • Army Reserves
  • Royal Navy Cadets (including Royal Marines)
  • Army Cadets
  • Royal Air Force Cadets
  • Scout Association

1055hrs: Units to be in position at the memorial as per the diagram ready to commence the service as per the order of service.

Once at the memorial, due to the large number on parade, the Scouts will spread out to fill both lanes of the road as per the diagram. Note the RAF cadet band will be positioned with the Scouts.

College Car Park Positions
Hawkey’s Lane Positioning

On the march down, the Scout flag bearers will peel off and line the path which will be walked by the civic party. They are to be positioned in single file with their backs to Hawkey’s Lane so when they dip their flags they will have a clear path in front of them. This route lining will also have the effect of helping to keep the path clear.

After the service the Scouts will move to the right hand lane of the road, the same side the initial march down took place on. This will leave the road clear for the RAF cadet band to lead the parade past the saluting dias back to the college car park for the dismiss.

As the Scouts pass the entrance to the doctors surgery their flag bearers will rejoin them for the march back.
