Built as the Jubilee Memorial Hall for the village of Powburn near Wooler, Northumberland, the premises were acquired by Tynemouth Scouts in 1974 and developed as an outdoor centre.

The centre is located just north of the village of Powburn in Northumberland (approximately 40 miles north of Newcastle), near Wooler. It is surrounded by unspoilt countryside with easy access to the Cheviot Hills as well as Bamburgh and Holy Island.

Features and Facilities

The centre can accommodate 36 people in mixed groups. It is well suited for Scout Groups as well as school or college parties following activity or educational based weeks away.

  • Staff Lounge – Furnished with easy chairs the lounge overlooks the outside activity area and adventure playground.
  • Large Main Hall for Dining and Activities.

  • Assault Course / Adventure Playground
  • Indoor Climbing Wall
  • Archery, Crate Stacking, Telegraph Pole Climb and Grass Sledges*
*Activites provided at a small charge if groups have qualified instructors.  Scout Groups wanting to use the equipment to run the activity themselves must be able to provide a valid instructors certificate where needed.  With advance notice we can usually arrange for instructors to visit, again at an extra cost.

Location

The centre is located on the A697, approximately 3/4 of a mile North of the village of Powburn. If you pass the left turn for Ingram, you’ve missed it.

Hire Charges

Tynemouth Groups: £6 per person per night (with a minimum charge of £120.00 per night)
Other Groups: £8 per person per night (with a minimum charge of £160.00 per night)

A non-refundable deposit of £50/night is required to confirm a booking.  This must be paid within 28 days of the initial booking otherwise the booking will be forfeited.

There is a late cancellation fee of £50/night if cancellation is within 28 days of the booking and we cannot re-book the centre to another group.

A catering service is available to schools/youth groups during the week.  No catering service is available at weekends.
