Northumberland Park

On Saturday the 4th of June over 50 Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, leaders and parents from Tynemouth District helped tidy areas of Northumberland park.

The 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Tynemouth all helped Fiona Betts, the North Tyneside Council park warden and Sheila Bell, secretary of the New Friends of Northumberland Park remove some of the wild garlic from flower beds and prepare them and other beds for planting.

Beaver 25th Birthday Party

On Sunday the 3rd of July Beaver Scouts from all around the District took part in a birthday party to mark 25 years since the start of Beaver Scouting.

They played trip to Mars, pass the parcel, had their faces painted, did some races to complete a jigsaw and even found time to have some birthday cake.

Chief Scout's Award Presentation

On Saturday the 1st of October Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorer Scouts from Tynemouth District went to the Discovery Museum to receive their Chief Scouts award certificates from the UK Chief Commissioner, Wayne Bulpitt.

The presentation was arranged by Northumberland County Scouts and saw over 200 young people from all around the county receive the top awards in their sections, as well as 4 who received the Queen's Scout award, the top award that a young person in Scouts can receive.

Congratulations to everyone that received an award.

Beaver Visit to the Centre for Life

On Saturday the 1st of October Beaver Scouts from most of our Group's went to see Wallace and Gromit at the Centre for Life.

Climb The Height Of Everest

On Sunday 9th of October Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and an Explorer Scout took part in a sponsored event to raise money for the 2011 Poppy Appeal.

By taking 100 coins up the steps of Collingwood's Monument 14 times it equated to climbing the height of Everest.

Scout's from the 4th Tynemouth also completed the event on an earlier night due to other commitments on the Sunday, while the Explorer Scouts are holding a quiz night to raise money for the appeal on the 14th of November.

Norah Roberts Competition

On Wednesday 12th of October Cub Scouts took part in this year's Norah Roberts competition.

Congratulations to everyone who took part and particularly to the 3rd Tynemouth who came first and the 1st Tynemouth who were close runners up.

Poppy Collecting

On Sunday 30th of October, Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th of November members of the District and some parents went to the Royal Quays collecting for this year's Poppy Appeal. Not all the sellers were caught on camera but most were. Thank you to everyone who turned up.

Remembrance Day Parade

On Sunday 13th of November over 160 members of the District took part in the remembrance parade in North Shields. They were joined by families and friends and formed the largest unit on parade by a long way. A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to take part.

Tynemouth Scouts were represented at other services around the area and around the UK. Our Explorer Scouts took part in a parade and service at Humshaugh and then Hexham Abbey.

Members of the 18th Tynemouth took part in a parade at the church they are attached to.

Oliver, a Beaver Scout took part in a service and parade in Clitheroe- East Lancashire. The parade went from St Mary's Church, through the town to the cenotaph in the castle's grounds. Oliver joined the parade and walked it's full route. On reaching the cenotaph, he was invited to stand with a local group of Beavers and remained with them throughout the ceremony and the 2 minutes silence.

Beaver Sports and IT Badge Day

On Saturday 19th of November the Beaver Scouts held their winter sports day and IT badge day. Thank you to everyone who turned up.

Carol Service
