Founders Day / 80th Anniversary
After a joint church service with the 7th, the group enjoyed a tour around St. James's Park. Our thanks go to Peter Nichol, Deputy Chief Scout for coming along to the celebrations.
Army Night
Friday 1 October 2004 saw Scouts from the 5th Tynemouth learning
about the modern army. They got to try on British, American, Saudi and
even Iraqi uniforms from the 1990 Gulf war, as well as looking at
photographs and some other souvenirs from Operation Granby, the British
name given to Desert Shield and later Desert Sword.
After that they tried on some of the chemical suits used by the army and
then crawled under a camouflage net, which turned into a race after the
third time. By the end of the night the Scouts were starting to realise
what the soldiers have to cope with as they started to feel the heat in
their suits.
